The Firs is a delightful home located near to the Derbyshire town of Codnor, set in its own grounds. Due to its heritage as a farmhouse, the building itself has a warm and welcoming appearance, adding to the very homely atmosphere that is appreciated by all residents and their family and friends.
Residents use the outside space as much as possible, making use of the summer weather by sitting and eating outside whenever possible. So much so that in 2010 Codnor beach was opened, with sand and deckchairs, pictures of the seaside and even Punch and Judy, our residents can sit out and feel like they are on holiday! The home, recently redecorated, has the main lounge, conservatory leading to the garden and dining room with views of the garden. Residents also benefit from the use of the centralised swimming pool and spa facilities.
With frequently run trips, regular live entertainment and family days and evenings, there is plenty to do. The Firs really is somewhere to enjoy with all the staff on hand to introduce you to new hobbies and spark new interests. We even have Dolly the rabbit and Spike the cat to keep you company. Also with regular visits to our onsite hairdressing salon you will be looking your best, and with regular visits from a chiropodist, dentist, physiotherapist and GP when required, you can feel very well looked after indeed.
There is always a registered nurse on duty, 24 hours a day so you can relax in the knowledge you are being well looked after. Our well trained care staff are always on hand to ensure you have everything you need.
The Firs also has an extra care unit devoted to the care of those with dementia. Our specialist extra care unit provides a safe and secure environment for those residents suffering from dementia. The unit is small with only twelve residents in each unit, allowing the very best care to be delivered by staff. Our staff have specialist training in dementia and we have the same staff in the units to ensure our residents always see a familiar face.
Everything within the unit is well thought out; our continence strategy helps residents to regain control by using brightly coloured doors and signs with pictures to help residents find their way. We have our menu boards with pictures of what’s on the menu today. Our clocks even have a day and night sign to help our residents to get a good night’s sleep. Memory boxes containing photos and mementos are placed next to each bedroom, helping our residents to have confidence they have found their room.
With all three levels of care catered for here at The Firs there may be no need to move again easing any worries of the future. This means you can really settle in and feel at home, safe and cared for.
Why not come and see for yourself what this lovely home has to offer. No appointment necessary. Whether it is day care, respite care or long term care required please enquire.
