Located in the quite village of West Hallam, the home is within easy travelling distance from Ilkeston, Derby and Nottingham. The Home is situated in a quiet residential area only minutes from Shipley Country Park.
Recently extended and updated the home has excellent facilities. With a large conservatory leading to a secure garden, a large dining area and comfortable lounge, there is plenty of communal space to enjoy with new found friends.
The Extra Care Unit, designed with dementia in mind, offers purpose built en-suite accommodation, constructed around a central courtyard. This area of the home offers round the clock care in this secure and safe environment. Everything from a menu board with pictures to help residents recognise what’s for dinner, to a clock that indicates whether it is day or night to help residents get a good night’s sleep, makes sure our residents get the best care.
Staff in both the main home and the Extra Care Unit, work very hard to ensure that our residents are as active as they desire. Regular walks and shopping trips are made locally, along with many trips to local attractions further afield including Ashmere’s centralised facilities.
The home provides regular live entertainment from singers and musicians many of which the residents love to see on a regular basis. On top of this there is the opportunity to take part in the cookery, arts and crafts and gardening clubs not to mention the exercise classes. Or you can learn new skills by joining our computer tutorials and using the fabulous touch screen computers we have at West Hallam. Get chatting to your Grandson on Facebook or see and chat relatives in Australia live on web camera, play games, do some shopping online or look up photographs of where you were born on google map. Whatever you choose to do learning a new skill can be very rewarding!
West Hallam is a very community minded village and local churches visit regularly providing spiritual care to our residents if requested. The village provides many events throughout the year, including the annual Well Dressing which attracts many visitors. Local amenities include good pubs all within walking distance, some of which provide restaurant facilities. The Bottle Kiln is a lovely place to visit for meals or a coffee and boasts a unique gift shop. However if you prefer the quite life there is plenty of time and space to pursue your own leisure time. The choice is yours.
On site catering from our extremely dedicated cooks, ensures that all your dietary needs are met, with a well thought out varied menu, you will get great good home cooking every day. The cooks have been known to have a go at your own family recipes if you are willing to share!
With your laundry taken care of and your room cleaned every day by the hardworking domestic team, there is nothing to take you away from enjoying the entertainment and hobbies on offer. However if you enjoy contributing, the domestic team are always happy to help those who want to do their own chores.
