The new Derwent Wing of Valley Lodge Care Home on Bakewell Road, Matlock was opened by the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire on Monday. The Dowager Duchess cut the ribbon to officially open the wing before talking to some of the residents, guests and the management team.
The Dowager Duchess was shown around the new facilities at the home including the day rooms, dining spaces and new hairdressing salon. Her Grace was also shown the new enclosed patio area where she planted a tree to commemorate her visit. After finishing her tour the Dowager Duchess commented “I am very impressed with the facilities in the new Derwent Wing. The whole wing seems to have been very well designed to cater for the needs of its residents and all the rooms I have seen have such a pleasant aspect, overlooking the surrounding countryside.”
The Derwent Wing has added 34 en-suite rooms to the Valley Lodge Care Home, making it the largest in the Ashmere Care Home Group. Valley Lodge now provides all levels of residential and nursing care and includes a purpose built dementia unit which provides 24 hour care for residents.
