Woodside is a specialist D/deaf household within Heanor Park Care Home which provides residential care for up to 12 older Deaf adults with additional care needs. We are proud to promote a strong Deaf community within Woodside which actively uses British Sign Language on a daily basis.

The impact that social isolation has for older Deaf adults in a hearing care home setting can have a detrimental effect on resident’s wellbeing and our mission is to reduce the impact. We also recognise the cultural needs of our Deaf residents by bridging the gap between the Deaf Community and Woodside to ensure that British Sign Language and Deaf Culture is rooted in the care we provide. All our staff are either native British Sign Language users or have minimum Level 2 (or working towards).
