esterday Tom celebrated his 100th birthday in unforgettable style. Tom is the first of three residents at the Heanor Park set to reach the centenarian milestone within the next two weeks, but he was also honoured with a heartfelt tribute recognising his lifetime of service.
Tom, who proudly served in both the Royal Navy and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, was surprised this morning when uniformed crews from local fire station representatives arrived at the care home to join in the celebrations. The visit left Tom visibly moved and brought tears to many people eyes.
To mark the occasion, Tom was presented with a special commemorative medal in honour of his many years of dedication to public service and his remarkable 100-year life.
Tom has been branded by many as the “true local hero.”
The festivities included a birthday party, live music, and a display of photographs and memorabilia from Tom’s life.
Tom’s celebration is just the beginning of a unique two-week stretch at Heanor Park Care Home, which will see two more residents celebrate their 100th birthdays — a rare and joyous occasion for the home.
Big thank you to Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service for making this day so special!
