Ashmere Wins National Award at Great British Care Awards

Ashmere is extremely proud to announce an employee has won a national award at the Great British Care Awards 2020!

Joy Tompson, who works at The Firs Care Home with Nursing as a domestic assistant, won the award for ancillary worker of the year for her fantastic efforts inside and outside of work to make resident’s lives extra special.

Joy said: “I am absolutely shocked that I received the award, everything I do is just in my nature to care for them and give them the best life they can.”

When it was allowed, Joy used to take residents to her own house and cook them a Sunday dinner. She also makes a conscious effort to make sure the resident’s rooms are cleaned to just how them to be, even taking time to create lovely towel art on their beds.

Joy said: “I love to make a resident’s day and take care of the smallest details. There life is in this home so it is our job to make their lives the best it can be.”

David Poxton, Director of Ashmere Derbyshire, handed the award to Joy, along with Katie Hoare (Manager at The Firs) and Sarah York (Deputy Manager and The Firs).

David Poxton was more than delighted with the incredible award.

He said: “I am so pleased that Joy has been recognised outside of Ashmere for her amazing efforts and commitment to the residents everyday.”
